Whose Glory?
Read Acts 11:1 through 13:52
Cliff was a wonderful speaker and Bible teacher, but he was proud. He permitted people to praise him instead of directing their praise to God. His wife, Sarah, was concerned because of what Scripture teaches. She held him up in prayer.
They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died (Acts 12:22,23).
As the apostles did miracles, always they directed people’s praise to God.
The Jewish historian Josephus said Herod dressed himself in shining silver clothes to appear as a heavenly being. In A.D.44 Herod accepted the title of divinity and praise belonging only to God, and God killed him. Herod suffered five days of terrible pain before he died. Here we see a great truth taught throughout the Bible, trusting in God leads to life, but pride and love of self leads to death.
Thought for Today: All praise belongs to God. Any good trait or talent we have is because of His mercy to us and our praise is due to Him for it.
